Turkey Day Cookies

Sooooo, I know, I suck at blogging lately. Honestly, I'm working just as hard as I ever have at projects. I just don't really feel the need to share them as much. It makes me realize that most of my blogging endeavours were fueled by a not-so-little need for validation. You know, the whole "look what I made! See how useful I am!" sort of thing. I'd probably say I should explore this with a therapist if I didn't feel like I was already over it.

Sort of. I mean, I'm not shutting down or anything. I just need to get off my butt and take more pictures (and then upload them, write about them, etc.) Maybe I'm just being lazy.

Anyway, I saw these on Pinterest:

(originally from Poppy Cove)

I wanted to make them for my son's Thanksgiving feast at school tomorrow, but OF COURSE, all candy corn (that I could find anyway) is made in a factory that is contaminated with nuts. We don't personally have a nut problem, but the classroom is nut-free. So I improvised with:

Mike & Ike! And homemade icing and chocolate chips. I originally bought:

But before I started decorating, I noticed it said "Does not harden for stacking" and knew it would be a big messy mess.

So, yeah, mine aren't as cute, but they're a good nut-free alternative!

Fall Crafts

Acorn wreath. So pretty. So simple. So cheap. 'Nuff said. A Thanksgiving blessings board. I saw a tute for this on another blog, and I hate not to credit it, but I can't remember who's it was. For mine, I bought a cheap frame from Wal-mart (wish I had a prettier one lying around the house that I could have painted), then I put large staples in the back of it and tied hemp twine (from the dollar store!) and ribbon on the staples in strips. I embellished it with some scrapbook paper and chipboard pieces. Lastly, I cut out a ton of leaf shapes with my Sizzix (the kids were able to help with that). Now, every night each of us writes one thing we are thankful for on a leaf and I punch a hole in them and tie them on the ribbon with extra twine. So far, I think Finn has had me write down "Kitty" every night, but who am I to tell him what to be thankful for? (Although I am secretly wishing that he might utter "Mommy" one night)

Thanksgiving in Pictures

Scott cooked, I cleaned, and we all had a great time! This Thanksgiving has made me think more than I've probably ever thought about how grateful I am. I am so glad I started taking active steps to being more postive and optimistic a few months ago. I now know I am truly blessed and how lucky I am!

Bummer

Scott and I were supposed to go see Celine Dion in concert tonight in Tulsa. It was to be our little 9 year anniversary (of dating) celebration. But, it was a good thing I checked her website or else I wouldn't have known it was postponed until February! I'm dissapointed, but it's a little bit of a relief. I was kinda nervous about driving 2 hours away and leaving my baby so soon. Her and Finn both go to bed at 8:00 now and it's really difficult to put them both down at once, so my mom is probably a little relieved too. Both of them get really fussy (Kinley espiecially) when they are tired! It will probably be a lot easier in February!

Finn and I made some more turkeys yesterday. These ones are really cute, although some turned out a little "special." I don't know what I'm going to do with a bunch of pom-pom turkeys, but at least it was something to do!

This Little Baby Wears Cotton...

We figured out yesterday that Kinley has rather sensitive skin! She fussed and cried ALL day long and when I finally took her out of the cute dress she was wearing, she had a rash all over! I felt so bad for the poor thing! She's doing a lot better, but I've purged her clothes and blankets of all things polyester-blend! Hopefully this will help her be a lot less fussy. But she DID look so cute!:

We're looking ahead to Thanksgiving now. It's such a fun holiday, espiecially since I'm so hungry all the time now! Finn and I made "turkeys" the other day:

I can't wait until Christmas! I want to do it up so much that Finn's head explodes! Of course not really, but I want him to have a good time!

Here's another cute one of Kinley:
