Finnisms

Finn is WAY too obsessed with Lego Batman at the moment. When he says really cute things I can't help but let him play:

Finn: Can I play Lego Batman, pleasepleaseplease?!
Me: Finn, mommy feels really sick right now and I think we should just sit here and stare at the walls.
Finn: OH-kay (sounding defeated). I'll just go play Lego Batman.

Or,
Finn: I think I need to potty.
Me: Put down the controller and go to the potty.
Finn runs from room, brings potty back in front of game.
Me: Why don't you just potty in the other room, the game is paused.
Finn: I like it. I want to potty in front of Lego Batman.
Me: Fine, just go *sigh*
Finn: Um, can you guys leave? I need some privacy.

My favorite is after asking all morning if he can play, and having me tell him repeatedly no, that I need to at least wake up a little and have some coffee, he corners his dad in the dark hall and whispers, "Hurry Dad, in here, now's our BIG CHANCE."

How can you say no to that kind of devotion?

Make Believe

When we came home from our "mini-break" to Hot Springs last week, Finn surprised us by suddenly sprouting an imagination! He has always been adamantly against playing pretend, or any sort of game that insinuates that he is any other person than himself, so I was a little taken aback when he declared himself as Batman as we stepped in the door. And it didn't stop there. He went on to be Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Firefly, and Man-Bat (notice a theme?). He EVEN consented to wearing a costume (made of the finest construction paper and tape).
Here he is in action as Firefly: And Man-Bat:

McKinley gets to take part as well, but doesn't really get in on the action (although, now that she has seen her brother jump of every piece of furniture we own, she has attempted to follow). Yes, she sat still for a few days after her cast was put on, but then she started an army crawl and now she is full-on RUNNING in her cast. More than that, she is actually climbing onto my bed and throwing herself onto the mattress with gusto. Talk about thrill-seeking.

Some very sweet friends of mine put together a Get Well basket for her, full of toys to keep her busy as she recuperates. I am doubly thankful for it just because we are all stuck in the house with colds as well.

Here's some more footage of Man-Bat in action:

Oops

I kinda feel like an ass. I'm trying not to go too far into drama-queendom by lamenting how much at I am fault, but you just feel that way when your toddler breaks her leg. That's right. I said broken. Kiki is in a cast. A hot pink water-proof cast, that is. Nothing but the best for my little baby.

Here's the story (I must document it for posterity, of course): We were at a local indoor bouncing place and Kiki and I were playing inside one of the inflatable toys. Her and Finn both generally love these kinds of places since they are so active, as evidenced by the broken leg. I took her to the top of one of the small inflatable slides and sent her down. Now, she usually does the large slides all on her own. She's sweet, but she's a bit of a thrill-seeker. The problem this time was the slide was pretty steep. She zoomed down and crumpled. I thought she wouldn't stop crying because she was scared, but after about 10 minutes I knew something was wrong. The fact that she wouldn't put any wait on her leg was pretty convincing evidence as well. A car ride, an doctor visit (luckly my pediatrician saw us and we didn't have to go to the ER), and an x-ray later confirmed it. Broken leg.

Now there is an upside. We are going to have to slow down for a few weeks. I think in the snowy madness we've had lately, I've gone a little crazy making sure we get enough physical activity. With somewhat disastrous results (there's that drama queen thing). Also, everything is a learning experience. Here's what I've already learned: 1) Have better judgement on what a 1-year-old can handle, and 2) my girl is a trooper! Except the 30-40 mins of wailing before the Motrin kicked in, she hasn't really cried once. She let the doctors poke her, she took an x-ray and she's been chilling in front of the TV on pillows with grace. Now, I can't guarantee that will continue, but for the moment I think she can handle it. That's my girl.
