Improvised Christmas Potholders

A few months ago, I bought a 12 Days of Christmas by Kate Spain charm pack. I started cutting it up to make a rag wreath, but by the time I had tied on my entire charm pack, I realized I only had enough for half a wreath. By this time I was sort of wishing I never cut the thing up because I didn't really want to shell out another $9 for more fabric to finish it with. So, I untied all my little 1" x 5" strips of fabric and reused them on a couple of potholders! I hate good fabric going to waste.
I simply sewed the strips in a brick-pattern, then layered some batting between it and a square of white. I added an "A" to dress up the back of it a little (for Finn's teacher's initial). Here's a hint: use pre-made, extra-wide double fold binding. I usually make my own, but I found it so much quicker to just sew this around the edge!
