Pool Time
Today I made this cute beach towel dress from Dana over at MADE. I admit, I did not shell out $6 for the pattern, but maybe I should have because it was a little touch and go when I was trying to figure out how to use elastic thread. But part of the thrill of sewing is in figuring out stuff on my own, so I worked it out. Perhaps I should write my own tutorial on it since I didn't find too much help on the web.
Here it is: Bon-a-fide shirring!

Let's Go to the Movies

In other news, we've been playing out back a lot. Kinley is still hating the pool (mostly because her brother splashes too much):

Don't Worry, She's Fine
We decided to have some good old outdoor fun this Memorial Day, so I filled up the pool and put the kids in. It started like this:
Kinley wasn't having a very good time, so we moved on to this:
But she wanted to be standing:
Which ended up like this:

The awesome cake:

It felt like my birthday yesterday! I had such an amazing day! Melissa threw me a beautiful shower for Baby Girl! She really went all out! There was great food, games and an awesome cake! I am so excited about throwing her a shower for her boy now because she gave me some great ideas! All my friends came too! It was so nice! Baby Girl got so many great gifts and clothes! I would take pics of all of them but it would certainly back up Blogger for awhile!
After the shower, Scott and I came home and put away all the gifts and fixed up Baby Girl's room. We put all the stuff on her walls and got out all the little baby toys. Except for the crib, it is all ready for her!
Last night Scott and I went out to dinner in Bricktown. It just felt like my birthday all day. It was such a great day!
In Finn news, he's been swimming in his new bigger baby pool lately. And he's had a runny nose that's been making him mighty cranky! Today he has been much better though! In fact, we've just been sitting around in the baby's room all morning. He LOVES the new double stroller. He played in it for TWO HOURS this morning!

May 22
Finn finally took a nap today! I tried to tire him out by going to a playdate, but it got cancelled. Instead we went with Scott to a park for a little bit. Finn used to love the slide and would hardly ever sit for more than a minute in the swings, but lately he has been all about the swings. He'll sit there forever! He's so friendly too. He just walks up to all the mommies on the playground and says hi (he's a bit of a flirt). And he's been so loud lately. He'll just start yelling out salutations across the playground. I'm trying to teach him to talk in a whisper voice, but so far it isn't working.
After his nap, we went to Nicolette's house to swim. She has a great pool and beautiful backyard. Finn had a great time. He really liked splashing in the pool and trying to drink the water (gross!). The last time he was in a pool was last summer when we took swim classes at the YMCA. He enjoyed it then too, but didn't really get the whole splashing thing at that point. He made up for it today! I was a little nervous to have him around a pool since he is such a wild child, but it wasn't as bad as I thought. HOWEVER, as soon as I voiced that to Nicolette, he started acting up. He kept going to the ladder at the deep end to stand at the edge of the pool or try to climb in. A couple of times I was afraid he was just going to jump! The wild child definitely came out! Anyway, we had a really great time. I'm so glad it's getting warm enough to be outside and swimming!
Of course, I forgot to take my camera to the park and the pool. It's a shame too because Finn and Sawyer were so cute together. They both had identical swim shirts on and were just adorable. They were really cute playing with the beach balls too. Sawyer would kick it and run after it, and then Finn would run along behind him. Finn really likes his little friend, but he kept trying to take his stuff today! I know it's just the stage he's at, but we have to work on the sharing thing. His idea of sharing right now is to offer something and then take it back before giving it to you.
Anyway, I did snap a picture of Finn this morning. He wanted to wear his hat around the house AND his bunny ears. Here he is playing with his little "computer":

Cotton Snowballs
It was another great day outside today, however the cotton has started raining on us. My entire backyard is nearly white because the cotton trees are shedding. We spent most of the day inside cleaning however. Finn continued his insistance on not napping, so instead we sat and watched a movie for "quiet time." He's gone through phases of not-napping before, so I think it's just a short-lived thing (I hope). He has actually always been a great sleeper. For over a year now, he goes straight to sleep when I lay him in his crib and sleeps for about 12 hours uninterrupted every night. He usually takes a 1-2 hour nap in the afternoon too. I really can't complain too much, although I may start putting him to bed later. It's hard to put him to sleep at 8:00pm when the sun is still shining anyway.
After a grocery store run, we played outside again. I filled up Finn's baby pool with water and positioned his slide to it. He really likes sliding down it into the water! I think we are going to have a water-fun-filled summer, espiecially since it allows me to just sit nearby and supervise. The best activities are the ones in which Finn can do while I read a magazine! Finn's tiredness showed while we played though--he kept nearly falling asleep while swinging.
I was able to tend to my vegetable garden (above) a bit too. Scott has finally convinced me that a lot of the little saplings are actually trees and not my veggies, so I had to pull out all the intruders. I've got some little peppers growing and I hope the squash start budding soon!
Anyway, I hope everyone had a good weekend!
