One Wreath, Two Ways

My friend Kristal made this cutie a few weeks ago with beans, and I've seen a bunch of tutorials on similar topics, so today I made my own out of acorns. I got a foam wreath frame and ribbon from the dollar store and I put my kids to work gathering acorns on Sunday morning. Finn had the great idea to collect the fat little gold balls that were falling from the trees as well, so I put them around the edge. I should go back for more of them though. I think a wreath made entirely of the balls would be really pretty.
I hot-glued on my "found" objects, spray-painted it all white, added some ribbon and viola! a spooky black and white wreath for Halloween. I hung it over my home-made mod-podged "BOO"sign:

Or, with a change of ribbon, a festive fall wreath (paired with my fabric wreath from a few posts ago):

I like both looks, but I suppose I'll keep the spookier version up for Halloween!

Young Minds at Work

My mother-in-law bought the kids a foam fort-building set a long time ago and they have really been busy creating things with it lately. It's funny how symmetrical Finn always makes his shapes. And he bends them in ways I would have never thought of! Here the kids are, pretending they are spaceships:

Yum Yum

I saw these, and immediately knew I had to make them. It was our week to make snacks for Finn's school, so I whipped up a batch. I thought they could be my trial run before I try making them for the bake sale. Of course, I see many imperfections. Namely, I hate the black gel frosting I used. And I substituted colored sugar for sprinkles. I think sprinkles sound better. Also, I need to get my hands on some marshmellow fondant (or marshmellow creme...mmm...marshmellow creme...) for the eyes. And I need a bigger nose for Elmo (I used a jelly bean). But I made due.

And Cookie Monster looks a bit like a duck.

Anyway, I really have been working lately. But, most of my projects are gifts that I don't want revealed yet. So, it may be a slow blog month.

Mini-quilts

I am sharing this post in Tea Rose Home's Wednesday link party.

I have been loving mini-quilts and table runners lately. They are quick to make and dress up a table or wall fabulously. Above is my newest, which I made for my coffee table. We recently painted, so I wanted to bring out a little more of the new wall colors. The pattern came from ModaBakeShop and it measures around 25" x 25". I love it!
